19th Century Hennequen Hacienda designed for Luxury Vacations and Unique Weddings near Merida
This private estate is half an hour from Merida near Acanceh. The previous owner of the hacienda was a botanist who had a palm nursery over many acres of gardens. The present owners have lovingly restored the Casa de Maquinas with the help of Salvador Reyes Rios and Josephina Larrain. More recently the henequen drying fields were purchased and the Casa Agave was constructed by Reyes Rios+Larrain. The Casa Principal of this historic hacienda is owned by a renowned artist from Mexico City and is not for rent.
Casa de Maquinas has two houses that face one another over a lawn. There is an arcaded loggia living-dining are that connects the two houses. There is a star gazing terrace above the loggia. There are large lily ponds surrounding the loggia which helps keep it cool in the summer months.
Casa Vieja has the beautiful old kitchen with a breakfast table. It opens onto a small courtyard with a grill and the grotto passage to the pool area. The adjacent living room is a cool refuge on rainy days. There are two king bedrooms with separate bathrooms and one of the bedrooms has a loft with a single and queen beds for children. The back of the house opens onto a stunning palm garden and the pool.
Casa Nueva houses the master bedroom suite that has a sunken living area and outside in a private walled court a plunge pool. There are two guest suites with garden views one king the other queen. This house is fully air conditioned Casa Vieja has only ceiling fans throughout. The hacienda sleeps 10 adults and 3 children. It is possible to rent the Casa Viejo alone if you do not need the Casa Nueva bedrooms. It comes with the exclusive use of the grounds.
Casa Agave is the latest addition to the hacienda. It is a contemporary two bedroom villa designed also designed by Reyes+Larrain.
There is a regulation bocce court on the grounds, 4 bicycles, volley ball, badminton, croquet, soccer, basketball, water volleyball and glow in the dark frisbee. There is staff of gardeners and two maids on the property Monday through Saturday. A washer and dryer are available. A driver for airport transfers and day trips can be arranged with advance notice of your arrival. The hacienda has become a popular destination for weddings and there is a separate charge for events.
